Back to Where I Belong

It’s hard to believe the last time I sang on stage was 2004. There was a time that you couldn’t get me off of one. But life seems to sometimes get in the way of our dreams and passions for “real world” demands and obligations.

Life also has a way of teaching you what’s important. It’s the wisdom it imparts if you are open to listening and trusting it. That feeling in your gut that tells you the difference between right and wrong, and my gut was tied in knots for years before I listened to it and made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I left a “dream job” to follow my dreams.

For the past 16 years I’ve been on a journey following another one of my passions, wisdom. I studied sociology and marketing, completed my degree and set out to use my knowledge and know how to make an impact in my community. And for the last 16 years I’ve done that serving in the non-profit sector, seeing first hand the many issues affecting us all, especially our mental health. It was a tremendous learning experience.

The social service sector can be really hard on people and it certainly wore me down. I heard someone say recently that this work is like a relay race and you do it while you have the energy. Then, when you’ve given all you can give, you pass the baton to the next person ready to go. Well I recently passed my baton and delving full-time into my music. I now work at Freight & Salvage, a non-profit music venue, meeting and learning from some of the best artists in the world. I’m also working on new music and putting together a band.

I look forward to taking the stage again for the first time in 16 years at the Freight and Salvage on January 6th starting at 8pm for Open Mic Night. I also look forward to sharing this journey with you. Please check back soon for some actual music. It is coming!
